James Gunn’s ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Releases Action-Packed BTS Video

Jun 8, 2025

The 11th Street Kids are back in a new promo for Peacemaker Season 2. It’s been a long three years since James Gunn’s spinoff series from 2021’s The Suicide Squad released on Max, with the director becoming busy spearheading the newly formed DC Studios. Now, the writer and director is finally bringing Christopher Smith aka Peacemaker (John Cena) into the new continuity that began with Creature Commandos and will continue with Superman in July. Despite the new canon, the fun dynamics of Peacemaker don’t look to be changing all that much, if this new behind-the-scenes teaser is anything to go by. The one-and-a-half-minute video, available to view below, offers a glimpse into some exciting new character interactions, as well as the fun and collaborative atmosphere of the Gunn production. The filmmaker has said in the past that working on the set of Peacemaker Season 1 was one of the most fun experiences he’s had, and this new video further cements that notion. John Cena, Michael Rooker, Frank Grillo, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee are all shown having humorous interactions with Gunn, while also shedding light on what fans can expect in the new season.

James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Was Influenced By a Very Surprising Movie

Of all the influences on ‘Superman,’ no was expecting this. But it makes perfect sense.

The video starts off strong with the tease of a confrontation between Grillo’s character, Rick Flag Sr., and Peacemaker, who had killed Flag’s son (played by Joel Kinnaman) in The Suicide Squad. Peacemaker’s decision to assist in the Government cover-up orchestrated by Amanda Waller made him somewhat of a secondary antagonist in the film. However, his choice to kill Flag haunted the character and helped to push him towards his redemption arc in the series.
‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Will Expand the New DCU

Aside from the more intense drama shown at the beginning of the video, there is also the fun dynamics of the team assembled in Peacemaker Season 1. Vigilante (Fredie Stroma), Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), Economos (Agee), and Peacemaker (John Cena) are all shown having established camaraderie as a team, partying together in what looks to be a hilarious scene. James Gunn has established himself as a creative who can tonally balance heartbreaking characters with amusing moments, and that will undoubtedly carry over into Peacemaker Season 2. There is also the tease of plenty of new characters this season, none of which look as conspicuous as Michael Rooker, who will be playing Red St. Wild. The character has been proclaimed to be the arch-nemesis of Eagly, Peacemaker’s partner and pet eagle. Needless to say, it doesn’t seem that Peacemaker will shy away from the more outlandish corners of the DC Universe and the vast array of characters that Gunn has at his disposal. Overall, Peacemaker Season 2 looks to be an ambitious step up from the first season, with new characters and a much larger sense of interconnectivity to the DCU. The change in authority between seasons of the show will undoubtedly help make the show much more significant in Gunn and Peter Safran’s “Gods and Monsters” saga of the DCU. With characters from the upcoming Superman movie also making an appearance, there could also be story implications for future projects in Peacemaker Season 2. Source: YouTube
