Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Yellowstone’ Hair Department Head On Creator’s Incredible Work Ethic and Rejecting Initial Work Offer

May 15, 2025

It is hard to imagine there are many people who would reject an offer of work from Taylor Sheridan

, but that was exactly what long-term Sheridan collaborator Tim Muir did before becoming the TV giant’s go-to hair department head for his endless list of hit shows. During an extensive interview with MovieWeb about his work in Sheridan’s TV universe, Muir explained how he came to be part of the Yellowstone

creator’s trusted team.
Speaking with MovieWeb’s George Edelman, Muir explained that his association with Sheridan was something that began long before the actor/writer/director was the god of Paramount+. Revealing how he first met Sheridan, Muir said:

“I met Taylor through his wife. I’ve worked with his wife and been friends with his wife for 30 plus years. And so I, you know, when I met him, it was kind of like she had met him. She was like, Oh, you got to meet this guy. He’s great, you know, and then ended up meeting him through her and we kind of, and then I started cutting his hair, and he was on Sons of Anarchy at the time.”

Every ‘Yellowstone’ Series and Spin-off Currently in Development

‘Yellowstone’ might have ended, but it has plenty of spinoffs on the way.

While Muir was adept at working in fashion and red-carpet styling, he had never been involved in film or TV, and had no real desire to do so. For that reason, when his first offer to work in the medium arrived – via Sheridan’s appearance in the movie Wind River – he actually turned it down.

“I focused on just my salon for a long time, and I was getting ready to open a second one, and I got a call from Taylor, and he said, You know, I got this movie I’m doing, and I said no, because I had no idea what it took to do a film. I just didn’t want to blow it for him.

So, my wife said to me, ‘You’ve never really turned down anything or a challenge. So, you know, why don’t just try it?’ So I called him [and said], ‘Okay, I’ll do it.’ Well, about a week and a half in the department head was no longer able to do the show, so they said, ‘We need you to step up.’ So I called friends of mine, and in 48 hours, learned how to run a department and became the department head. And then Taylor liked what I did, and so he brought me along with him. The rest is history.”

Taylor Sheridan Has an Incredibly Driven Work Ethic

FX

It was recently revealed that the new CBS series Y: Marshals, the latest in a long line of spinoffs from Sheridan’s Yellowstone franchise, will not be written by the man who created the franchise and all of its other universe shows. However, with three other Yellowstone shows in active development, along with new seasons of Landman, Lioness, Tulsa King and more on his plate, it is perhaps not surprising that Sheridan would want to sit out at least one of them.
For Muir, that doesn’t mean Sheridan is slacking in any way, as he revealed that, in all honesty, he does not know how the creator is able to do as much as he manages to fit in. He said:

“I don’t know how he does it all, to be honest. I mean, he’s so driven with his work. I consider myself to be a really hard worker. I enjoy doing it, and I think he works even harder than I do. It’s hard to see how he does it, but he does it, and he kills it every time. And like I said, I’m just blessed and privileged to be a part of it. I’m so grateful to work with and for him.”
