Rawson Marshall Thurber To Write & Direct New ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Series For Paramount+
Jan 10, 2023
We are still more than two months away from the release of the new “Dungeons & Dragons” film, ‘Honor Among Thieves,’ but apparently, eOne and Paramount are so amped on the upcoming film (or just the franchise, in general), they’ve decided to go ahead and give a full season order to a new live-action “Dungeons & Dragons” TV series for Paramount+.
According to Deadline, eOne and Paramount have teamed up with filmmaker Rawson Marshall Thurber to bring “Dungeons & Dragons” to Paramount+. The plot of the new series is unknown, but the report claims that this is the biggest TV production eOne has ever tackled and the studio hopes it’ll be the jumping-off point for a new franchise on Paramount+.

“Dungeons & Dragons” is based on the table-top roleplaying game of the same name from the ‘70s, in which players roleplay as various characters in a vast fantasy world, filled with, uh, dungeons and dragons. The title doesn’t lie, people. There really is just an immense number of directions the series can go, and there is enough lore to provide inspiration for dozens of different series and films. Plus, with TTRPG playthroughs being hugely popular on YouTube and Twitch, as well as a spotlight on the game in “Stranger Things,” this is a perfect time to bring “Dungeons & Dragons” projects to the mainstream.
Thurber is probably best known as the filmmaker behind “Red Notice,” the massively popular action film from Netflix starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot. The filmmaker is going to be a producer on the show as well as providing the script and direction for the opening episode of the series.
As mentioned, “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” is the latest film project from the franchise. The new film is directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, and it stars Chris Pine. The film is expected to be much more comedic than previous versions of the franchise, which has languished for years with terrible adaptations over the past 20 years or so.
No release date has been set for “Dungeons & Dragons” on Paramount+. ‘Honor Among Thieves’ is expected to arrive in theaters on March 31.
