Patty Jenkins Quit WONDER WOMAN 3 After She Was Asked to Rewrite the Script — GeekTyrant
Dec 14, 2022
We’ve got some new details to share with you in regard to why Wonder Woman 3 is not moving forward at Warner Bros. and DC Studios. It was initially announced that Patty Jenkins “submitted her treatment, co-written with Geoff Johns, and that Gunn and Safran, as well as Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs and co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, broke the news to the filmmaker, telling her the project — as it stood — did not fit in with the new (but still unfolding) plans.”We’ve now learned that Jenkins actually ended up quitting the project after she received notes on her treatment from the studio executives. Deadline reports, “Apparently, her threequel pitch had character arc problems which rivaled that of Wonder Woman 1984.” I heard that she “doubled down” on WW84 with the third film, which obviously didn’t go over very well. So, in the end, Jenkins wanted to stick with her vision and instead of reworking the script with the notes that the studio gave, she decided to walk away. It’s explained that Jenkins “fought back and defended her vision that the threequel’s character arcs were solid. Jenkins was given the opportunity for another pass, but opted to walk.”The studio still wants a Wonder Woman movie, but at this point, with Jenkins walking away, we don’t know what that will be or even if Gal Gadot would return. But it seems like the studio executives want a new film and are open to Gadot returning! They just were looking for a better script to work with. We’ll just have to wait and see how this all plays out when James Gunn and Peter Safran reveal their plans.
