Jun 3, 2025
The Accountant 2’s streaming release date has been revealed. A sequel to 2016’s The Accountant, once again directed by Gavin O’Connor and written by Bill Dubuque, the action thriller sees Ben Affleck reprising his role as Christian Wolff, who teams up with his estranged brother Brax (Jon Bernthal) to uncover a deadly conspiracy and face off against a ruthless network of assassins. The Accountant 2’s cast also includes Cynthia Addai-Robinson and J.K. Simmons reprising their roles from the first film, with Daniella Pineda joining the ensemble. Now, over a month after its theatrical release, Amazon MGM Studios has announced that The Accountant 2 will be available to stream on Prime Video starting June 5. Its Blu-ray or DVD release date has not yet been announced. It’s also unclear when the movie will be available to buy or rent on digital platforms.
What The Accountant 2’s Streaming Release Date Means For The Movie
How Has It Performed So Far?
After premiering at South by Southwest in early March, where it won the audience award, The Accountant 2 was released in theaters on April 25. It faced some significant competition from the re-release of Revenge of the Sith and Sinners, opening third at the box office behind those two titles with $24.5 million in its first weekend. In subsequent weekends, the sequel saw significant declines, and to date, The Accountant 2 has made over $101 million at the box office against its $80 million budget.
A third movie is in development.
In addition to grossing more than $100 million globally, The Accountant 2 has received generally positive reviews, with some viewing it as an improvement over the original movie. Critics praised the sequel for building on the original and capitalizing on Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal’s buddy-comedy chemistry, making it a reliably entertaining watch. Audiences also enjoyed Affleck and Bernthal’s performances in the action-heavy sequel, which balanced its brutality with just the right amount of humor and heart, earning 76% and 92% scores on Rotten Tomatoes.
