Jan 18, 2023

Can something good come from disaster? The new Apple TV+ series “Dear Edward” explores the lives of those impacted by one devastating event. Hailing from Emmy-winning writer and producer Jason Katims of “Friday Night Lights” fame, this drama adapts Ann Napolitano’s bestselling novel of the same name.

“Dear Edward” follows a teenage boy as the lone survivor of a plane crash who builds a surrogate family with others affected by the tragedy. Here’s the show’s official synopsis, courtesy of Apple TV+:
Hailing from Apple Studios, “Dear Edward “tells the story of Edward Adler, a 12-year-old boy who survives a devastating commercial plane crash that kills every other passenger on the flight, including his family. As Edward and others all over the world are affected by the tragedy try to make sense of life after the crash, unexpected friendships, romances and communities are formed.
“Dear Edward” stars Emmy nominee Connie Britton and SAG Award winner Taylor Schilling and introduces newcomer Colin O’Brien as Edward. The ensemble cast includes Amy Forsyth, Anna Uzele, Audrey Corsa, Brittany S. Hall, Carter Hudson, Dario Ladani Sanchez, Douglas M. Griffin, Eva Ariel Binder, Idris DeBrand, Ivan Shaw, Jenna Qureshi, Khloe Bruno, and Maxwell Jenkins.
Katims serves as both showrunner and writer on “Dear Edward,” as he did on “Friday Night Lights.” Fisher Stevens directs the series and serves as co-executive producer with Napolitano.
“Dear Edward” is an uncommon story that shows that tragedy may, however unlikely, also lead to new connections. The first three episodes of the series debut on Apple TV+ on February 3; new episodes then premiere every Friday until the March 24 season finale. Watch a trailer for the show below.
