Hugh Jackman Dodges ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ MCU Casting Question

May 29, 2025

Fans are still wondering if Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, but if he does, the actor won’t say anything. Given how successful Deadpool & Wolverine was at the box office, many fans were shocked not to see Jackman’s name revealed during Marvel’s five-hour livestream cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday. This was even more notable given that seven other actors are reprising their roles from the X-Men film franchise. During an appearance on The View, host Sunny Hostin asked Jackman if he would be reprising his role as Wolverine in Avengers: Doomsday, before acknowledging she knows the actor can’t say much. Jackman jokingly responded, “I really can’t say much. Except, when you say ‘appear,’ more like dominate and destroy every other char– I’m kidding. And it becomes a one-man show!” Jackman, in his traditional charming way, skirted around the question, saying:
“No, I really have nothing to add. And if I did, I would find a really cool way to not say it, but I actually have nothing to add. So that was uncool. But thanks for asking!”

Wolverine’s MCU Future Is Unclear

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

As with everyone involved in or rumored to be part of the MCU, Hugh Jackman is good at answering a question without actually giving an answer. At the moment, Jackman is not set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, but it has been reported that only half of the movie’s epic cast has been revealed. More are expected to be announced, likely at San Diego Comic-Con 2025. Tom Holland, Brie Larson, and Benedict Cumberbatch are a few other high-profile MCU actors who are rumored to return for Avengers: Doomsday but have not been announced yet.

This ‘Ant-Man’ vet won’t be fighting alongside the Avengers in ‘Doomsday.’

With Avengers: Doomsday teasing a confrontation between the Avengers and the X-Men, it certainly would seem odd not to include Jackman’s Wolverine, the face of the 20th Century Fox X-Men franchise. With Deadpool & Wolverine having grossed $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office, it feels only natural that Marvel Studios would build on that movie’s positive reception in Avengers: Doomsday. The company seemingly teased fans with an eight-hour stream of Jackman’s Wolverine breathing as a background video for National Stress Awareness month, so the character still has a big presence. Also worth noting, nobody has asked Jackman if he will return as Wolverine in Avengers: Secret Wars. If the film follows the 2015 comic of the same name, the film might take place in a composite world made up of many different Marvel movie realities. This could set the stage for not just Jackman’s Wolverine to return, but for fans to finally see him share the screen with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. Anyone who grew up in the 2000s dreamt of seeing them stand alongside one another, and given that both actors have appeared in separate MCU multiverse films, that dream feels closer to reality.
