‘Superman’ Takes Flight in New Promo Video for James Gunn’s DCU Film

May 29, 2025

The first full-length trailer for James Gunn’s Superman was released this past week. It featured plenty of exciting new action and a glimpse into the story, showcasing David Corenswet’s Clark Kent struggling against a world that pushes back against his need to do good for the sake of good. Of course, there are plenty of breathtaking shots in the trailer that depict Superman using his powers, saving (and sometimes fighting) all sorts of people and monsters. A new video has been spotted that features Superman in flight, and it looks awe-inspiring. An X user took to the platform to share a video of an electronic billboard promoting the new Superman trailer. The footage showcases Superman in flight, soaring through clouds. Much of the appeal of Richard Donner’s original Superman movie, released in 1978, was due to the special effects used to depict the character’s ability to fly, with the tagline on the poster even being “You’ll Believe a Man Can Fly.” Now, it seems that the marketing for Gunn’s Superman is evocative of the original films, with much of the focus being on Superman’s powers and how inspiring a figure he could be.

Don’t Worry Zack Snyder Fans, James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Is Taking the Best Elements From His DCEU Films

The recent full-length trailer for ‘Superman’ showcases James Gunn’s use of a concept briefly explored in Zack Snyder’s DC films.

Zack Snyder’s 2013 film Man of Steel featured somewhat similar marketing. The first teaser trailer showcased Henry Cavill’s Superman flying from afar, creating a sonic boom as he took off. This new video on X gives a different perspective, as Gunn depicts Superman flying from behind, giving onlookers a close-up look at the character mid-flight, which can be viewed below.

James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Has Plenty of Powers Left to Showcase

Warner Bros. Pictures

When James Gunn was first announced as the writer and director of Superman, there was a curiosity about how he would depict the character’s powerset. Fans of the filmmaker got a glimpse of what he could do with a character like that in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after introducing Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock. The nearly invincible superhero has similar powers of flight and super strength, and Gunn gave the character enough exciting action scenes to give viewers an idea of what he could do with the DC iconic superhero. While the new trailer for Superman showcased a lot of action, several of his abilities have yet to be shown off. Aside from flight and super strength, Superman also has laser vision and ice breath, meaning there could be a good chance that Gunn has him use those powers at some point in the movie. The filmmaker has never been shy about showcasing unconventional superpowers, as shown by characters like Polka Dot Man or Ratcatcher in this 2021 film, The Suicide Squad. It will be exciting to see what other promotional material comes out in the weeks leading up to Superman’s release. If the first trailer is anything to go by, the film seems to have a good blend of action and drama that stays true to Superman as a character. The movie will also need all the marketing and promotion it can get, as it has some stiff competition at the box office in July, with Jurassic World Rebirth coming out the week before and Fantastic Four: First Steps releasing two weeks later.
