Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint Is More Open To Returning As Ron Weasley

Jan 31, 2023

Home Movie News Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint Is More Open To Returning As Ron Weasley

Despite his earlier tentative responses, Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint becomes more open to returning to the franchise as Ron Weasley – with conditions.

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint becomes more open to reprising Ron Wesley in the Harry Potter franchise. After spending his teen years as a wand-waving wizard from Hogwarts, Grint left his character in the perfect position. Ron is married to Hermione, has two Hogwarts-aged children (Rose and Hugo Granger-Weasley), and has made quite the name for himself in the franchise’s epilogue. A professional Auror for the Ministry of Magic and married to the Minister of Magic, Ron is in a better place than he has been at any prior point in the series.

While Ron may have settled down, Grint is opened to returning to Harry Potter, as he revealed in an interview with This Morning.

While Grint previously responded hesitantly to reprising Ron again, as he couldn’t imagine returning to the role that he played for such a large part of his life, he seems much more on board with returning to his position as Ron. Of course, that return is still predicated on the rest of the cast returning with him and if the moment was right. Check out the entirety of Grint’s quote below:

“Yeah, I think if the timing was right and everyone was kinda coming back I would definitely revisit it. It’s a character that’s important to me. I kinda grew up with him. We kinda became the same person. I feel very protective of him as well.”

Could The Original Cast Of Harry Potter Return?

While a sequel seemed an unlikely prospect for years, as the story of Harry Potter is officially wrapped up in the movies, the franchise appears to be on the rise. With Hogwarts Legacy releasing on February 10, Harry Potter is once again entering the domain of public notice, even as reports emerged that there will likely not be another Fantastic Beasts movie. While the Fantastic Beasts franchise failed due to a combination of factors, ranging from a confusing plot and recast actors to a nonsensical premise involving the protagonists preserving the horrors of World War II, the Harry Potter franchise still has potential.

While it seems unlikely that all Harry Potter stars would return, the question always remains. As the majority of Harry Potter’s cast earned their stardom from the series, many are generally remembered for their role in the franchise, which keeps Harry Potter as an albatross over their heads. Unfortunately, between J.K. Rowling’s numerous controversies and the fact that she keeps changing and hurting the Harry Potter franchise, it would be somewhat difficult to navigate putting together a new take on Harry Potter. If the cast ever does reunite for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child or another spin-off entirely, the majority of the Harry Potter cast would need to return, which doesn’t seem particularly likely.

Still, while the cast of Harry Potter was vast, many would still be willing to return to the Wizarding World. Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) previously shared that he would be happy to reappear, and director Chris Columbus would also be willing to shoot the sequel story Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. However, some original Harry Potter stars aren’t willing to return. Daniel Radcliffe has indicated he would prefer to distance himself from the role for the time being, and Emma Watson would prefer to wait at least four years before the question is posed again. This makes the future of the Harry Potter franchise uncertain, even if Grint would be happy to appear.
