Only once in a blue moon can a single project bring together such an abundance of top-tier acting talents, but the new, unsettlingly relatable anthology drama series Extrapolations for Apple TV+ has done just that. Ahead of the series’ debut on the increasingly popular streaming platform, per a report from Collider, a set of new promotional images has been released, giving audiences a closer look at the impressive cast.
Extrapolations, which by definition refers to an act of inferring an unknown from something that is known, is an intriguing name for this series that focuses on something our world is unfortunately all too familiar with – climate change. The show is an eight-part anthology-style series set in the near future that features interconnected stories between characters living in the same world that’s been almost irreversibly damaged by climate change. While continuing to navigate their personal and work lives and take care of their loved ones, each character has to make life-altering choices as a result of the world’s crisis. Ultimately, they’re all forced to confront the reality of the dire situation and figure out what to do before it’s too late.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
This riveting new series, which bears a striking resemblance in many ways to the Netflix satire Don’t Look Up (2021), is directed by Scott Z. Burns and stars an absolutely staggering number of award-winning Hollywood heavyweights. As the new photos below show, to start, they include Meryl Streep (Don’t Look Up), Sienna Miller (21 Bridges), Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), and Daveed Diggs (The Little Mermaid). Further bolstering the cast is Forest Whitaker (Black Panther), Matthew Rhys (Cocaine Bear), David Schwimmer (Friends), Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises), Spiderman alum Tobey Maguire, Edward Norton (Glass Onion), Keri Russell (Antlers) and numerous more. Many actors jumped at the chance to be a part of a well-told story with a critical overhanging message to the audience that climate change affects everyone everywhere, regardless of race, creed, or status. The first-look images can be found below.
Extrapolations premieres exclusively on Apple TV+ on March 17.

Scott Z. Burns Creates Stories of Hope Amid Catastrophe
Participant Media
While director Burns wasn’t the brains behind Netflix’s earlier project, Don’t Look Up (2021) that more satirically approached the climate crisis and the utter indifference by the powers of politics, media, and celebrity against it, it indeed echoes similar ideals to his newest project Extrapolitation, which appears to give a more genuine, heartfelt approach to the subject.
It isn’t the first story of a very relatable human crisis that Burns has told. He wrote the script for the 2011 medical thriller Contagion, starring Kate Winslet and Matt Damon, which centers on a massively contagious respiratory virus that originates in Hong Kong and spreads rapidly across the globe, spiraling into a pandemic-level catastrophe. It eerily echoes the actual COVID-19 pandemic the world would suffer several years later and still does. However, the film was nonetheless embraced by the ideals of human perseverance and hope, no matter the odds, that humankind can band together to defeat the worst of threats.
