Howie Mandel’s Psychic Reading Turns Shocking As Unexpected Spirit Crashes the Studio

May 20, 2025

Summary

In an interview with Collider, psychic medium Matt Fraser reveals he left Howie Mandel and his family visibly shaken by a jaw-dropping spiritual encounter.

Fraser’s reading for Mandel unexpectedly included messages from Howie’s late father and his brother’s deceased mother-in-law.

Mandel’s brother, initially skeptical, was amazed when he realized Fraser was accurately channeling his mother-in-law, showing the power of mediumship.

When psychic medium Matt Fraser sat down with Howie Mandel, he expected some laughs, not a jaw-dropping spiritual encounter that left the America’s Got Talent judge and his family visibly shaken.
In an interview with Collider, Fraser reveals how he joined Mandel on his Howie Does Stuff podcast and prepared to give the comedian a reading. What began as a casual chat quickly turned into an emotional rollercoaster when Fraser channeled messages from Howie’s late father and, unexpectedly, from his brother’s deceased mother-in-law. The surprise? Even Howie had to jog his brother’s memory to confirm it was all real. It wasn’t just another Hollywood moment—it was something eerily personal and incredibly profound.
Howie Mandel’s Brother Was the One in Shock During Matt Fraser’s Reading

“Sometimes we forget, or we’re not expecting it.”

Fraser says Mandel originally reached out in a direct message via one of his social media accounts. But, “I’m horrible at checking my direct messages. I had no idea he was following me. I saw his profile and it said ‘follow back,’ and I thought, ‘Wait, why does this say follow back?’ I clicked in and saw that he had already messaged me. That’s where the conversation started,” Fraser recalls to Collider.
When Fraser appeared on the podcast to conduct a reading for Mandel, he didn’t expect the other spirits to join them. But like any podcast recording, Mandel was joined by the production staff, his daughter and his brother, which opened the opportunity. “What was really awesome is that when I was there, not only did I get a message from his dad, talking about how souls come through for different people, but also his brother was in the studio. His brother’s mother-in-law came through with a message, which was really interesting,” Fraser says.

The ‘America’s Got Talent’ judge’s wife had an unfortunate incident in Las Vegas.

Mandel’s brother was perhaps a skeptic because he didn’t lean in, at least not at first. “I don’t know if he was a skeptic or just someone who didn’t like that I was bringing through this information — he was like ‘No, no’ as I was talking about this mother-in-law coming through and a baby that had passed,” Fraser says. “I was giving all these details, and he kept saying no.” Mandel was flummoxed and asked his brother-in-law if he didn’t recall who Fraser was seeing.
“That’s when his brother kind of came clean and said, ‘Oh I forgot!’ He was so in the moment, caught off guard, that he wasn’t thinking clearly,” Frasier recalls of the brother’s reaction, not realizing it was his mother-in-law trying to reach him.
Fraser says he never knows which spirits might materialize, so some of his readings truly take some people off guard, especially if they aren’t there for a reading. “That’s the cool part — when multiple people are in the room and can help validate things. Sometimes we forget, or we’re not expecting it. We’re not good on camera. We’re like a deer in headlights. I think it was cool for Howie because not only did he get a reading, but so did his brother and coworkers. He was close to them and knew their stories, so he was able to add more context,” Fraser shares.
Matt Fraser Shares What Surprised Him the Most About Howie Mandel

“”Everyone told me to be careful when meeting him.”

Fraser, who often likes to hug those he does readings for, was nervous to meet Mandel. “Everyone told me to be careful when meeting him because he’s a germaphobe,” he says. “They said, ‘Don’t get too close, don’t do this, don’t do that.’ I wanted to be respectful. I was walking into his studio, and I didn’t really know how to act. That’s hard for me because I talk with my hands—I’m all over the place!”
“So the first thing I said to him was, ‘Howie, you tell me. I know you don’t like germs—tell me where you want me to sit or stand, and I’ll do whatever you want.’ And he was so cool about it.” Fraser recalls being so nervous, he didn’t know if he should touch door handles. “I didn’t want to touch anything. But he was like, ‘Matt, don’t worry about it. I’m good.’ It wasn’t as bad as people had made it out to be,” Fraser says. “Of course, we did the fist bumps and the elbow taps, which was fine by me. But I think when people hear the word ‘germaphobe,’ they get nervous or thrown off—like I was. I didn’t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. But when I was there, it wasn’t nearly as intense as I had expected.”
Catch Fraser’s next show at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on May 22, 2025, and at the Majestic Ventura Theater in Ventura on May 23.
Mandel returns to the America’s Got Talent judges table for Season 20, which begins on Tuesday, May 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
