Home Streaming Johnny Knoxville Reacts to Hulu Canceling Reboot: ‘Pretty Unbelievable’

Johnny Knoxville says he hopes Reboot finds new life at another home with a “studio who believes in and knows how to properly support a new show.”

Fans have expressed their dismay over Hulu canceling the new comedy series Reboot after just one season. Premiering on Hulu in September, Reboot tells the story of a sitcom’s cast getting brought back together for a reboot of their previously-canceled show. Among them is Johnny Knoxville, who was part of the ensemble cast with his role as fictional sitcom actor Clay Barber.

As the series was a hit with viewers, garnering positive reviews and debuting to high viewership, fans were expecting Reboot to be renewed. Instead, Hulu axed the show this week, stunning the cast along with the fans. Knoxville opened up about the news with a post on Instagram, questioning how this could happen despite the show’s success. He then takes a jab at Hulu for giving up on the show so soon, expressing his hope that another streamer will pick it up.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I say that despite getting great reviews and being nominated for a critics choice award Hulu has failed to pick up Reboot even for a second season,” Knoxville says in the Instagram post. “Pretty unbelievable. Working on this show has been one of the great highlights of my life, and I wanted to thank Steve Levitan and the entire stellar cast for allowing me to be part of this show.”

He continues, “It’s not over yet though, as we tend to shop it around and hopefully it will find a home with a studio who believes in and knows how to properly support a new show as it continues to grow.”

Will Reboot Live On Elsewhere?

Hulu

It remains to be seen if Reboot gets picked up at another streaming platform, but with the show getting shopped to other potential buyers, there’s a good chance of that happening. Creator and showrunner Steve Levitan said last year that there were already talks about how to continue the story past the first season and teased what would’ve happened if the show were to get renewed.

“We have actually started talking about that already,” Levitan said in October, via Entertainment Weekly. “There were a lot of balls in the air during the finale, and the first thing to do is to make sure that those all land in a compelling and entertaining way. But it’s amazing how quickly the world expanded, there’s a lot to explore.”

He went on to add, “I think in season 2 we will get into the premiere of the show and all that goes into that. As somebody who just went through a premiere, there’s fresh stuff for me to delve into about what it’s like in this day and age to launch a show when the whole world can comment on it. It’s a pretty fascinating time. That’s one of the things we’ll talk about.”

Along with Johnny Knoxville, the series stars Keegan-Michael Key, Rachel Bloom, Calum Worthy, Krista Marie Yu, Judy Greer, and Paul Reiser.

You can stream the first season of Reboot at Hulu.
