Antony Starr Promises ‘The Boys’ Fans Will Be “Shocked” By Season 5 Finale

Apr 4, 2025

Prime Video’s The Boys is coming to an end with its fifth and final season, and Antony Starr (who plays Homelander on the show) promises that fans aren’t ready for the shocking finale. Based on the graphic novels by Garth Ennis, The Boys is set in a world where superheroes are so common place, they have become pawns to be bought and sold by American entertainment companies and defense contractors. Across four seasons, we’ve watched the titular team, led by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) lead the underground fight to eradicate the egotistical ‘supes, and Season 5 will bring the dramatic battle to its long-awaited conclusion.
During an interview with Collider to promote his new movie G20, Antony Starr was asked about production on The Boys’ final season, which is currently ongoing. The actor didn’t reveal any plot details about Season 5, but he said that the time feels right for the hit series to come to an end, and that fans will be both delighted and shocked by the conclusion. “It’s strange because as much as I love the show, I don’t like seeing things overstay their welcome, so I’m glad we’re finishing at [Season] 5,” Starr began. “That said, I love the show and the characters so it’s a bittersweet moment.”

Antony Starr was also asked about his reaction to reading the Season 5 scripts for the first time. The actor promised that the final season will deliver all the blood, gore, and unexpected twists that The Boys fans have come to love. “The scripts… I’ve got to say, in typical The Boys fashion, I didn’t see it coming,” Starr said, continuing:

“I never see it coming with this show. Everytime I think I know what’s going to happen, something else happens. This was no exception. I’m six deep, I haven’t seen the finale. But, I know what happens, and I think fans are going to be either surprised or shocked, depending on their nervous system, and very, very entertained.”

‘The Boys’ Season 5 Is Currently in Production

Production on Season 5 is currently ongoing in Toronto, Canada. The Season 4 finale saw Billy Butcher finally give in to his darkest thoughts and embrace the strange power growing inside of him as a result of taking too much Temp-V. While many plot details remain a mystery, showrunner Eric Kripke, has already confirmed that we’re going to get the dramatic showdown between Homelander and Butcher that we’ve all been desperate for.
As well as Season 5 of The Boys, Eric Kripke is also hard at work on Season 2 of Gen V, the university-set spin-off. The showrunner recently gave a massive update regarding the status of the second season. “Eps are done editing, doing music, sound & VFX now,” he wrote on social media. “Finishing up the first trailer. Trailer date and announcement coming soon. (I think this season is better than S1 & will be worth the wait).” Season 2 of Gen V hasn’t been given an official release date yet.
