Fandom Is Taken To The Extreme In New Series From Donald Glover & Janine Nabers

All it takes is a very basic search on social media to find that fandoms can be taken to the extreme in some scary ways. Obviously, as a film and TV outlet, we have covered things such as Zack Snyder’s fans threatening executives over silly DC superhero films. Then there are Marvel fans obsessed (to an almost unhealthy degree) with their favorite characters. Not all fans are like this, but there are definitely groups that take things way too far. And the same can be seen in all media, especially music, where fandom can dominate someone’s life. The scary side of fandom can be seen in the new series, “Swarm.”

As shown in the trailer, “Swarm” follows the story of a young woman who grows obsessed with her favorite musical artist. She claims to be part of the Swarm, which is the name fans of the musical artist give themselves. However, in the case of the young girl in the series, being part of the Swarm isn’t just a fun thing on the side, but it dominates everything about her life and is taken to the extreme in scary, sometimes violent ways. 

The thriller series stars Dominique Fishback, Chloë Bailey, and Damson Idris. “Swarm” originates from Janine Nabers and Donald Glover, who are co-creators and producers of the series. Nabers is also the series’ showrunner. Previously, she worked with Glover on the award-winning series, “Atlanta.” The series will also see its debut at this year’s SXSW.

“Swarm” debuts on Prime Video on March 17. You can watch the trailer below.
