Mark Wahlberg Leads Action-Packed Heist Thriller On Prime Video

Aug 26, 2025

Play Dirty’s first trailer is here, teasing what’s to come from the Mark Wahlberg heist thriller. Directed by Shane Black in what marks his first directorial effort since 2018’s The Predator, the upcoming Prime Video movie sees Wahlberg back in action after the poorly reviewed Flight Risk earlier this year. Play Dirty sees Wahlberg starring alongside LaKeith Stanfield, Rosa Salazar, Keegan-Michael Key, Nat Wolff, and Thomas Jane, among others. Wahlberg takes on the role of Parker in the film, a ruthless thief who stumbles upon a massive heist. Prime Video has now released the first full trailer for Play Dirty ahead of the film’s October 1 streaming date, teasing a return to form for Black in terms of tone. It also reveals that a billion-dollar relic is the score that Parker and his crew will be after. Check it out below:
Accompanying the new trailer is an official logline for the movie, which reveals that Parker and his crew will also be running afoul of the New York mob as they pursue the score of a lifetime:
An expert thief rolls out the biggest heist of his life in Play Dirty, an action-packed thriller from director Shane Black. Parker (Mark Wahlberg), along with Grofield (LaKeith Stanfield), Zen (Rosa Salazar) and a skilled crew, stumble onto a score that pits them against the New York mob in this gritty, clever caper.

What The Play Dirty Trailer Means For The Movie

Four divers surround an ancient statue underwater in Play Dirty

Black has a distinct style as a writer/ director, with his films often blending violence and humor in a unique way. Having directed films like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005), The Nice Guys (2016), and The Predator, Black is back in familiar territory here. Continuing a Shane Black tradition, at least part of Play Dirty also takes place at Christmas.

Black also directed 2013’s Iron Man 3, which marks his biggest commercial success to date.

The trailer also affirms that Wahlberg’s character truly is ruthless. He guns down several people without batting an eye, creating a stark divide between Parker and someone like George Clooney’s Danny Ocean from the Ocean’s franchise. This violence is partially responsible for Play Dirty’s R rating, which the film earns for “strong violence, pervasive language, some sexual content and nudity.” Though the logline suggests the mafia will serve as a primary source of antagonism in Play Dirty, the trailer teases that Parker and his crew will also be facing off against a billionaire and an army. As is revealed in the footage, this leads to some bombastic action sequences, with Amazon seemingly giving Black quite the budget to pull off this film. For Black and for Wahlberg, Play Dirty could be a source of redemption. Flight Risk reviews were lackluster earlier this year, and Wahlberg’s previous effort, The Union (2024) was also met with a tepid response. Similarly, The Predator landed with a thud back in 2018 for Black. Play Dirty has the potential to turn the tide.
Our Take On The Play Dirty Trailer

The Nice Guys wasn’t a big commercial success, but it has developed a cult following. There are now even continued calls for The Nice Guys 2. Play Dirty definitely has a similar energy to The Nice Guys in some ways, meaning it could come out of the gate with a more enthusiastic response given the existing goodwill towards Black. In terms of action, though, the trailer teases some pretty big effects-heavy sequences, which are in quite stark contrast to the action in The Nice Guys or Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. It remains to be seen how these more blockbuster sequences land after the disappointment of The Predator, but Play Dirty is evidently one to look forward to.
