As we edge closer to the start of shooting on Deadpool 3, more little bits of information about the highly anticipated Marvel movie continue to trickle out from its stars. This time around, Hugh Jackman has been sharing some new details about the movie, which will include the surprise return of Wolverine in the MCU debut of Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth.
Since the original announcement of Jackman’s return as Wolverine, there has been plenty of wild speculation about exactly how he and Deadpool will be teamed up, with many fans believing that the pair will come into the movie as best buddies on a multiverse spanning road trip. While appearing on The Empire Film Podcast, Jackman revealed that the relationship between the two may not be initially one of happy-go-lucky friends. Jackman said:
“How do I categorize it? Ten being really close, zero being the reality, we’re zero, we’re opposites, hate each other. I’m just talking from my perspective, [Logan’s] frustrated by him, wants to be a million miles away from him or wants to punch him in the head. Unfortunately, he can’t be a million miles away from him in this movie, so I’m probably going to punch him in the head a lot.”
The hint of some comical violence between the two certainly fits with the Deadpool franchise Marvel fans have come to love, and that should help ensure the movie’s success when it is finally released. However, there is a long way to go before that, and there is still a lot to be revealed about exactly why the pair are thrown together.

With Deadpool 3 being promised as an R-rated entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems that we should really expect the same kind of foul-mouthed, violent film that brought success for Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Logan. In a previous interview, director Shawn Levy assured fans that there will be no watering down of the Deadpool franchise, and he has been having fun getting ready to bring the character into the MCU. He said:
“We are writing, rewriting, developing, prepping ‘Deadpool’ every day now. It is such a blast to laugh every day. It is so delicious to hear and write and come up with these scenes where people are just talking foul. And the violence is in your face and hardcore, and it’s very much a ‘Deadpool’ movie. And it has Logan in it. And it has Wolverine in it. It’s too fun. I’m having so much fun, and I haven’t even hit the shooting floor yet… I have to say, developing a ‘Deadpool’ movie is one of the most fun creative experiences of my life because it’s not just that it’s rated R. It’s that it’s so filled with self-awareness, and that makes in-writing very, very fun in a way that is unique to that franchise.”
Deadpool 3 is currently expected to arrive in cinemas on November 8, 2024.
