John Leguizamo addresses his chances to return as villain Jimmy “Scrooge” Martinez’ in the popular Christmas action-thriller, Violent Night 2
Actor John Leguizamo addressed the chances for returning to Violent Night 2. Released just in time for Christmas last year, the Die Hard-inspired action-thriller sees Santa Claus (David Harbour) called to protect a family during a violent home invasion and robbery by a trained team of mercenaries. Leguizamo stars as Scrooge, the villainous leader of the mercenary group who aims to steal $300 million from the wealthy family’s heavily-secured vault.
Although Scrooge and his team meticulously planned the elaborate heist, they did not expect to be thwarted by a real-life hammer-wielding Santa. Taking out the mercenaries one-by-one, Santa eventually defeated Scrooge. ComicBook recently spoke with Leguizamo and asked him whether he may return for the Violent Night sequel. Read the actor’s response below:
“I can’t reveal anything, but you might see me.”

How Can Scrooge Return in Violent Night 2
Leguizamo’s comments indicate that the actor may reprise his role as Scrooge despite his gruesome death. Although some films leave room for a villain to return by killing the character in an uncertain manner, Violent Night left nothing to the imagination. After a brutal brawl between Santa and Scrooge, the Christmas warrior uses his magic to force his body through a chimney, eviscerating him in a bloody mess.
With Scrooge’s death confirmed, if Leguizamo returns for Violent Night 2, it may be in flashback sequences regarding the orchestration of his elaborate heist. The sequel may expand on the dynamic of the Lightstone family and how it intertwines with Scrooge’s backstory. However, if the sequel stays true to its Die Hard roots, the film may cast Leguizamo as Scrooge’s brother seeking revenge, similar to Die Hard with a Vengeance’s plot which saw Hans Gruber’s (Alan Rickman) brother as the villain.
Director Tommy Wirkola previously announced that he is already developing the Violent Night sequel and discussed possible lore elements to explore. The director aims to examine more of Santa’s life to include the North Pole, Mrs. Claus, and his Elves. However, barring a future announcement, audiences will have to be patient to see if Leguizamo returns for Violent Night 2.
