Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Pays Tribute to Slasher Horrors and ‘Full Metal Jacket’

Mar 18, 2025

Wednesday

fans are eager to see Jenna Ortega

return to Netflix in the second season of the acclaimed fantasy drama, and with the new episodes set to roll out later this year, Ortega has been teasing what is coming in the sophomore season. Season 1 of Wednesday became one of Netflix’s biggest hits, and it looks like Season 2 is going to be even bigger as it takes inspiration from some classic movies of the past.
While speaking to Collider about her new movie, Death of a Unicorn, the actress was asked about the new season of Wednesday, and shared how this time around the show will dig even further into horror even more elaborately than the first season. She said:

“Visually, I can say we have some of the most fun we’ve ever had. It’s crazy to talk about one frame like this, but there is a frame of Pugsley rolling his eyes back with this contraption around his head—that’s all I can say— and it reminds me so much of Full Metal Jacket. It’s insane. So bizarre. I just feel like there are a lot of scenes and frames, and there’s a whole episode based off of slashers, and we make a lot of horror references. So, everything about it, I feel like we kind of had a little bit more trust, and therefore, we felt like we could do bigger, more elaborate sequences, which is nice.”

Jenna Ortega has shared an unexpected update on the future of ‘Wednesday’ that will make fans of the Netflix series very happy.

Jenna Ortega Loved Working With Lady Gaga

Netflix

Netflix has not yet revealed exactly when Wednesday Season 2 will debut, but along with the incredible returning we know that the series will include another batch of special guest stars including the inimitable Lady Gaga. Gaga was most recently seen in the DC flop Joker: Folie à Deux – the less we say about that the better – but has previously caused a stir with her appearances in American Horror Story and The House of Gucci. With her eccentric style, an appearance in Wednesday seems like a perfect match for the singer’s next TV role.
Ortega recently praised Gaga and explained how special it was to work with the singer, alongside returning director Tim Burton, on the latest episodes. Having already worked with Burton on Season 1 and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, it seems that Ortega seems very much at home playing to his gothic sensibilities, and that is something that Gaga fits with perfectly. Ortega said previously:

“It was just a really, really special environment to be there with her and Tim [Burton], two people that I respect and have been inspired by so much. Then just finding out that she’s such a sweetheart and really kind and reserved, it’s very strange. I love that you never know what to expect from her, but you can always expect kindness and generosity.”

Wednesday Season 2 is not just relying on Gaga for that extra pull, though, as the new episodes are littered with some hefty talent that will appear alongside Ortega and fellow regulars Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, and Emma Myers. Others joining the new season are Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, Christopher Lloyd, Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton, and Haley Joel Osment.
