Kelsey Grammer on Paramount Issues & Cheers Reunion Hopes for ‘Frasier’ Season 3

Mar 8, 2025

Kelsey Grammer remains determined to bring Dr. Frasier Crane back to the screen, even after the Paramount+ cancelation of the Frasier revival. Grammer’s iconic Dr. Crane returned with the anticipated follow-up series that premiered back in October 2023. The series saw Frasier back in Boston (the city audiences first met the quirky doctor through Cheers), following the death of his father and the demise of a 20-year relationship. This time around, Grammer was surrounded by an all-new cast (although Peri Gilpin, Harriet Sansom Harris, and Bebe Neuwirth did appear). After a two-season run, the streamer canceled the revival.
Grammer believes that Paramount didn’t properly promote the series, which, in turn, reflected a lack of passion from the streamer. In an interview with the New York Post, he shared:

“There’s a better home for it. I mean, obviously, they didn’t really promote or spend much time on it.” He added: “The fellow that worked at Paramount Plus when we first sold the show there left, and so it sort of fell into their laps, the next administration, without having any real conscious and what to do with it. So I think they gave it sort of a good try, but they weren’t particularly passionate about the project.”

Kelsey Grammer Protected Frasier Revival Co-Star’s Job Amidst Cancer Diagnosis

A Frasier revival star assumed they’d lose their job following a cancer diagnosis.

The series is reportedly being shopped around by CBS studios, and Grammer feels optimistic that Frasier will land somewhere where “people are passionate about it:”

“Listen, it’s got a huge audience, a big following, and if people know where to find it, I think they will.”

Paramount+ currently has about 77.5 million subscribers, and while that’s a high number, the streamer is undoubtedly not an industry giant (for comparison, Netflix has over 300 million subscribers). Despite not capturing the original’s success—a monumental task—the Frasier revival still benefits from the beloved Frasier Crane, ensuring continued audience interest.
Could Ted Danson Join the Cast of ‘Frasier’?

There’s still plenty left to explore in the Frasier universe, including Frasier and his son Freddy’s (Jack Cutmore-Scott) evolving relationship and the possibility of a romantic development between Frasier and Roz. If Frasier does receive its third season, a reunion between Ted Danson and Grammer is a distinct possibility. Last year, Grammer appeared on the Danson and Woody Harrelson-hosted Where Everybody Knows Your Name. During the episode, Danson and Grammer hashed out a prior conflict that kept them at odds for 30 years. Danson apologized, and Grammer noted that he wished the two would have “spent more time together.” Now that they’ve made up, the future is looking bright for a Sam Malone and Frasier Crane reunion:

“Ted and I might visit actually something together. We’ve been talking about a couple ideas. Maybe on ‘Frasier.’ We don’t know.”

He added:

“As long as its still a relevant relationship, it will still be relevant for the show. [Sam] and Frasier got along pretty well, discovered some things together about life. They could still do that.”

The Frasier revival, starring Grammer, Cutmore-Scott, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Toks Olagundoye, Jess Salgueiro, and Anders Keith, remains available for streaming on Paramount+.
