Born Again’ Spider-Man Reference May Hint at Future Team-Up

Mar 6, 2025

One of the most exciting aspects of Daredevil’s reboot on Disney+ is that Matt Murdock is now a more significant part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe than ever before. On Netflix, Charlie Cox’s Man Without Fear was allowed to make subtle references to the MCU, but his recent inclusion in Marvel series and movies allows him to interact more directly with our favorite heroes. Notably, after the Netflix series was canceled, Daredevil made his initial return in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home as Peter Parker’s lawyer. Now, a small reference in Daredevil: Born Again may hint at a potential team-up in the future.
At the center of Born Again’s narrative is Wilson Fisk’s (Vincent D’onofrio) Mayoral campaign, as the character’s political ambitions set him on a collision course with Murdock, despite the latter not having been active as Daredevil for over a year. Interestingly, at the center of Fisk’s platform is an anti-vigilante policy; when discussing it, Fisk references the Punisher, Daredevil, and a vigilante with a “spider symbol.” This apparent reference to Spider-Man hints at what the wall-crawler has been up to since he erased everyone’s memories of Peter Parker at the end of No Way Home.

The creative minds behind ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ have paid homage to late actor Kamar de Los Reyes.

This reference also indicates that Spider-Man has been working as a street-level vigilante, a far cry from the hero’s previous grand-scale adventures. Now, with Fisk targeting vigilantes, the new Daredevil series may have hinted at a possible team-up involving street-level heroes like Daredevil and Spider-Man – something we recently saw in another new Marvel series.
A Daredevil and Spider-Man Team-Up Would Be Perfect For the Street-Level Heroes

Marvel Animation

Fans have been clamoring for a Spider-Man and Daredevil team-up, and the creatives at Marvel Studios have clearly taken note of this. Besides Murdock’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the character is also featured in an episode of another new Disney+ series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. In the episode, Daredevil (voiced by Cox) interacts with and even fights Spider-Man for a brief moment, giving fans a taste of the kind of fun choreography that can be achieved between two characters with acrobatic abilities.
Additionally, it seems that Daredevil: Born Again is taking several cues from Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto’s run on Daredevil, in which Matt Murdock quits being a vigilante after he accidentally kills someone. Wilson Fisk is also the Mayor in this run of the Daredevil comics, and the influences on the new series are obvious. Zdarsky’s comic also features Spider-Man confronting Matt about his reckless actions when fighting Fisk, though that will most likely not be a part of the television series.
Hopefully, Wilson Fisk’s brief mention of Spider-Man is just the beginning of the wall crawler’s foray into street-level action. With the fourth Spider-Man film from Destin Daniel Cretton on the way, there’s always the chance that fans could get a Spider-Man story that has him with his ear to the ground, and maybe even a Daredevil appearance. Given that the current release date for Spider-Man 4 is sandwiched between two Avengers films, fans may have to wait a little longer for a live-action Spider-Man and Daredevil team-up.
