Jason Sudeikis Confirms ‘Ted Lasso’ Ends With Season 3 But Says There Are Spinoff Opportunities

Mar 7, 2023

We are very close to the release of Season 3 of the Emmy-winning Apple TV+ comedy series, “Ted Lasso.” And though it’s been speculated and hinted at that Season 3 could be the end of the road for the series, nothing has been confirmed—until now.
In an interview with Deadline, Jason Sudeikis, the star of “Ted Lasso,” confirmed that Season 3 is the end of the series. Well, at least this version of it.

“This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell,” Sudeikis said. “The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet—that being Season 3—it’s flattering. Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season [have been released], they’re like, ‘Man, you know what, we get it, we’re fine. We don’t need anymore, we got it.’ But until that time comes, I will appreciate the curiosity beyond what we’ve come up with so far.”
“Ted Lasso” started as a silly character featured in NBC commercials and has spun off into one of the most successful shows in the relatively short history of Apple TV+. The show follows the title character, an American football coach, as he ventures to the UK to coach a professional soccer team. It has earned rave reviews (and a ton of awards) due to its clever and soulful writing, as well as just for being one of the most pleasant series on TV, which sounds like a backhanded compliment, but it’s meant with true sincerity.

The series has brought in huge numbers for Apple TV+, especially during its infancy. And because of that, there have been reports that co-creator Bill Lawrence is working out ideas for potential spinoffs, as is the way in 2023. Sudeikis doesn’t shed any light on specific ideas, but the actor confirms that interest is there to expand the “Ted Lasso” cinematic universe.
“Yeah, I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks…to get to watch the further telling of these stories,” he said. “Again, I can’t help but take the question as flattery for what all of us that were working on the show has tried to do. It’s really kind of folks to even consider that because you never know what’s gonna happen when you make things. The fact that people want more, even if it’s a different avenue is lovely.”
“Ted Lasso” season 3 debuts on March 15 on Apple TV+.
