Netflix’s New Conspiracy Thriller Premieres On March 23

Mar 9, 2023

Ever wondered what a YA version of “White House Down” would be like in a serial format? Well, Netflix has its take on that premise coming out soon. “The Night Agent” premieres on the streamer later this month, a conspiracy thriller about a fledgling FBI agent who uncovers a Russian mole in the White House.

Based on Matthew Quirk‘s novel of the same name, Gabriel Basso leads the show’s cast as Peter Sutherland, the young agent on the mole’s tail. Here’s an official synopsis of “The Night Agent,” courtesy of Netflix:
Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent is a sophisticated, character-based, action-thriller centering on a low level FBI Agent who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings — until the night that it does, propelling him into a fast moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads all the way to the Oval Office.
Alongside Basso, “The Night Agent” also stars Luciane Buchanan, Hong Chau, D.B. Woodside, Fola Evans-Akingbola, and Eve Harlow.  Phoenix Raei, Enrique Murciano, and Sarah Desjardins round out the main cast.
Shawn Ryan, of “The Shield” and “S.W.A.T.” fame, serves as showrunner and executive producer on “The Night Agent.” Other executive producers include Seth Gordon and Marney Hochman with MiddKid Productions; Julia Gunn with Exhibit A; Jamie Vanderbilt, William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, and Nicole Tossou with Project X; and David Beaubaire with Sunset Lane Media. Gordon, Guy Ferland, Ramaa Mosley, Adam Arkin, and Millicent Shelton share directing duties on the show.
So maybe “The Night Agent” isn’t as action-packed as “White House Down.” But it still shades of “Jack Ryan” and similar fare geared for a younger audience. Maybe it’s a sleeper for Netflix for the early spring? Watch a trailer for the series below before it premieres on March 23.
