‘Ballard’ Star Celebrated ‘Bosch’ Spinoff Success as Series Continues To Dominate Prime Video
Jul 25, 2025
Bosch fans were worried about what they would watch now that the Titus Welliver-led series has ended, but Ballard has very quickly become a go-to replacement series on Prime Video. The new series starring Maggie Q as Detective Renée Ballard, with Welliver guest-starring as Harry Bosch, has led the Prime Video chart since its debut two weeks ago after earning a perfect Rotten Tomatoes critic score and a solid 78% from audiences. Someone who is really pleased about that is star Courtney Taylor.

‘Bosch’ Spinoff Star Explains How Show Will Not Be Relying on Nostalgia
‘Bosch: Legacy’ spinoff ‘Ballard’ is setting out to be its own show and not rely on the success of its predecessor.
In Ballard, Taylor plays Samira Parker, and while she knew that everyone making the series loved it – including Welliver – having critics and audiences feel the same has made it so much better. She told ScreenRant:
“I’m literally on cloud nine. I could not have imagined a better reaction from all of the Bosch fans, all of the Michael Connolly fans, and even the new fans that are coming out. I’m like, “Oh my gosh.” Talking about watching it in a day, or watching it over the weekend, and I could not have expected a better reaction. I’m still on cloud nine.”
Taking on the ‘Bosch’ Legacy Was a Daunting Prospect for ‘Ballard’ Star

While it seems that there is a strong sense of continuation in Ballard, following in the footsteps of both Bosch and Bosch: Legacy is something that took a lot of courage for the writers, producers, directors and stars. It is easy to say that a show lives and dies on its own merits, but Ballard had to uphold the standards set by its predecessors. Taylor continued to explain how it was only after the show’s release that she finally accepted the series’ positive vibes. She said:
“I think I worry about criticism all the time. I think we all do. I do know that once Titus had given us like the [praise], “This is very good.” It’s so nice to be able to have this show following Bosch, because it’s something so good, and it feels very like passing the baton, almost in a completely new and exciting way.
So honestly, once Titus gave us the green light, I was like, ‘Okay, if Titus loves it, I’m assuming his fans will, because he understands this world.’ So him liking it, Michael loving it, I was like, ‘Listen, I think we got something good here.’ So I was just wishing and praying. Everybody felt the same as them.”
Ballard has certainly taken the Bosch baton and ran with it. The question is, what does this mean for Bosch’s future? Clearly, thanks to his frequent crossovers in Connelly’s novels, Harry Bosch will have plenty of guest appearances in the series, but whether we see him in a new story of his own…as Connelly is still writing novels featuring the character, it really is a never-say-never scenario. For now, though, fans can find all episodes of Bosch, Bosch: Legacy, and Ballard on Prime Video now. Source: ScreenRant
