Lara Pulver Reveals Bella’s Intentions With Tom Hardy’s Harry in ‘MobLand’
Apr 26, 2025
Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for MobLand Episode 3.The Harrigan men in MobLand have their fair share of issues but it’s the women in their lives who not only have to deal with them but have to deal with the baggage that comes with a life of organized crime. At the head of the household is Conrad (Pierce Brosnan), but let’s be real, the actual person who holds much of the power is Maeve (Helen Mirren). Though despite the power that she holds, she can’t seem to stop Conrad from inviting his illegitimate daughter Seraphina (Mandeep Dhillon) to family gatherings and including her in the family business.
And while Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy) might be the go-to fixer for the Harrigan crime family, he still has to go home every night and answer to his wife Jan (Joanne Froggatt), especially as their relationship gets more and more strained. The two of them must balance the overwhelming weight and presence of Conrad and the Harrigans with their own life.
Finally, the most recent episode of the series also revealed that Bella Harrigan (Lara Pulver), Kevin’s (Paddy Considine) wife, was once Conrad’s lover, but once she got too close to the patriarch, he broke things off and introduced her to his son in a somewhat incestuous turn of events.
We spoke with Dhillon, Froggatt, and Pulver about their characters roles within the family and how their involvement with the Harrigans of MobLand affect them. Specifically, Dhillon and I discussed Seraphina’s caustic relationship with Maeve and her position and standing in the Harrigan family. With Froggatt, we talked about the complicated relationship Jan has with Harry and when enough will be enough for the woman. With Pulver, we discussed the relationship she not only has with Harry but also with Kevin and how that might affect the dynamics of the two men.

What Is Seraphina’s Relationship Like With the Harrigans, Really?
“You’ve got to have thick skin.”

COLLIDER: Mandeep, obviously, Seraphina has a very close relationship with her father, but she and Maeve do not see eye to eye. Will we get to see Seraphina’s mother, and how do you think the complexities of her birth affect how she acts in her family?
MANDEEP DHILLON: I can confirm you don’t get to see her mother in this series. Who knows for future seasons? I think her birth and the way that she’s turned up in the world, obviously, being the daughter of a stripper…
LARA PULVER: Was she a stripper?
DHILLON: Yeah, she was a stripper at Stringfellows. You’ve got to have thick skin. I mean, even if Seraphina never came to her father when she came to her father, I think her being the daughter of a stripper, you have to have that thick skin because people are going to talk about your mum. You know what I mean? So, I think she’s got that in her, but instead of letting it dim her or shrink her, actually, it makes her take up space. It’s also put that fire in her for power, for money. She’s a hustler, and I think if she has that, no one can take that away from her. No one can say anything. For her, that’s validation. So, she’s really planted her feet right in the Harrigans, and she feels so at home. Even though Maeve hates her, she does not care.
I think she and Maeve are actually very similar in characteristics. They both have that grittiness that I think is necessary to be in this business.
DHILLON: Yeah, you’re right.
When Will Jan Leave Harryy? Joanne Froggatt Speaks on This
“It will take a lot. It takes a lot.”
Joanne, watching this show, I literally could not wait for Jan to pick up her bags and just head on the road. What will it take for Jan to leave Harry? Because he’s a lot to deal with as a husband. Listen, I love Tom Hardy, but I would not want to be married to this man. And just how much does she know about Harry’s job and his life?
JOANNE FROGGATT: [Laughs] She actually knows quite a bit. Again, that was something that, at the beginning, there were discussions about how much should she know, and I was like, “She needs to know.” They’ve been together 20-odd years. She’s complicit. She doesn’t like to know the details. There’s a scene slightly later on, it might be Episode 3 or 4, where she says to Harry, “Your work is your work. I don’t want to know the ins and outs. I don’t care what you do; I’m with you. Let’s just not tell me the details.” But she knows the world. She knows the family. She knows the people that Harry is connected with.
What will it take Jan to leave? Well, that’s a big question. It will take a lot. It takes a lot. Look, she loves this man with all her heart. Yes, she wants more from him emotionally. She’s evolved as a person as she’s gotten older, and I think Harry’s probably stayed the same, and now she wants a little bit more from him. She’s kind of poking him, going, “Hi, I’m here. Can I have your attention?” So, yeah, we’ll have to see if she does get his attention or if she has to make big decisions.
It’s a big step for him to even say, “I might go to therapy,” which is a lot for men to admit. So, I guess that’s maybe progress for him.
FROGGATT: Jan’s been complicit in this life. She was attracted to the powerful bad boy when they were young. They have a child together. They live a very nice lifestyle. There’s all of that still going on for her. That’s not gone. It’s just that she’s frustrated with him because she wants his attention. She wants to feel like their family is more important than the Harrigans to him.
PULVER: Good luck with that.
Bella’s Relationship With Kevin, Harry, and Eddie
“It’s a bit cat and mouse-y, a bit of just pushing boundaries.”

Lara, immediately when I watched the first episode, I could already sense that there was something happening there, but then we get a bit more of a confirmation that Bella and Harry have something in the past. Can you tease how that dynamic is going to develop in the series, and how does it play into Bella’s relationship with Kevin specifically?
PULVER: I think Bella and Kevin are sadly in quite a loveless marriage. They live very separate lives, and for whatever reason, neither of them has chosen to really address that situation. I think Bella finds fun and almost a reprieve in Harry. They share wit and humor. Look, I’m not sure whether she emotionally or physically wants to get involved with Harry, but she has a lot of fun poking at the bear. It’s a bit cat and mouse-y, a bit of just pushing boundaries. I think she’s a bit sick of the identity, and the place that she’s been in for quite a while, and it’s almost like she’s rebelling, and just flexing her muscles and seeing what avenues she can explore.
Eddie has this big thing that happens with Tommy Stevenson, and I’m curious what Bella thinks about it, especially since her son is quite close to Maeve, which is maybe problematically too close, I would say.
PULVER: Yeah, it’s hugely problematic, and I think it’s disturbing and conflicting that her son is really under the influence of Maeve in that sense. I do not have his ear. I can’t guide him, and you feel helpless. As a parent, all you want to do is give your child the tools to be independent and fly, and the wings have been clipped because of privilege, essentially, and a very unhinged grandmother, and that’s hard. You can’t really go head-to-head with that at the place that Bella is currently at when we start the series.
