‘Black Panther’ Producer Suggests Multiple Wakanda Series Coming To Disney+ With Some “Completely New” Characters
Dec 12, 2022
While it’s unclear whether or not Ryan Coogler is going to return to direct another “Black Panther” film after the release of ‘Wakanda Forever,’ it has long been known the filmmaker is working alongside Marvel Studios to develop spinoffs for Disney+. Originally, it was revealed that the spinoff would be focused on the Dora Milaje, led by Danai Gurira’s Okoye. However, according to Marvel, the world of Wakanda is likely going to grow much larger than just that.

Speaking to Variety, “Black Panther” producer Nate Moore teased how Marvel Studios isn’t just looking at the Dora Milaje series as the only expansion of the franchise. No, no, no. In fact, Wakanda could be a mainstay on Disney+ with old characters and alongside new faces getting the spotlight.
“This world is expansive, and there are so many great characters,” Moore teased. “Beyond what happens with this film, there are more opportunities to go back to Wakanda.”
He added that there are “some ideas” for shows based on established characters from “Black Panther, but there would also be other series featuring characters “that would be completely new.” Overall, Moore said, “There are no shortage of ideas, let’s put it that way.”

Judging by the fact that the first “Black Panther” film grossed over $1 billion and earned a Best Picture Oscar nomination, along with expectations that ‘Wakanda Forever’ could do the same, it makes total sense that Marvel Studios would want to continue to go back to that well. If Ryan Coogler has done anything well with the franchise, so far, it’s the way he’s introduced so many fascinating corners of Wakanda and the deep well of characters to pull from.
Without giving any spoilers, there are clear storylines and characters in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which could lend themselves to quality series and “special presentations” on Disney+. And we all know that this is music to the ears of Disney, as the studio continues its expansion of streaming and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
