Glenn Howerton would absolutely answer the call should Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman offer him the role of Mr. Fantastic.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Glenn Howerton would love to join the MCU as Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. Speaking with The Movie Dweeb Howerton, who has been rumored for the role of Reed Richards as well as being a fan-favorite casting, said it would be “super fun” to reunite with director Matt Shakman on the Marvel blockbuster and would certainly accept if the filmmaker ever calls.

“Somehow, in my mind, there’s no chance that anything that I will ever do will be watched by people, and I don’t know what that is, I think it’s this sort of perpetual underdog thing that I feel, which makes no sense. But, no, look, it would be super fun, and obviously, the director, Matt Shakman, is a very close friend and an absolutely incredible director, so it’d be super fun to work with him again. But aint nobody called me about that yet, but I would accept that phone call.”

While Howerton is one of the top choices among Fantastic Four fans for the role of Mr. Fantastic, the actor, who was in fact one of the final choices for the role of Guardians of the Galaxy member Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, is so unconvinced that he will ever be considered for the role that he offers to give the publication a majority share of his salary should he ever slip into the blue spandex suit.

“You get me Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four movie, I’ll give you 75% of my…And by the way, I’m not joking, because I know they’re not gonna pay me that much anyways. It’s not gonna make that much of a dent. You go get me that role, I’ll give you 75%, that’s the deal.”

We still have no idea who will win the roles of the Fantastic Four when the Marvel reboot lands in theaters next year. Ongoing rumors have suggested that the likes of You star Penn Badgley is being tapped for the role of Reed Richards, with Killing Eve actress Jodie Comer rumored for as the favorite for the role of Susan Storm aka The Invisible Woman. The current rumor doing the rounds however is that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and White Noise star Adam Driver is the current favorite for Mr. Fantastic.

Only time will tell whether any of these rumors are in any way accurate, but the idea of Glenn Howerton sharing the screen alongside Doctor Strange and Spider-Man will always be an intriguing one.

Fantastic Four Will Not Tell an Origin Story

Marvel Comics

Not much has yet been revealed about what Marvel Studios plans to do with the Fantastic Four, but Kevin Feige has revealed that the introduction of Marvel’s first family to the MCU will not be an origin story. “A lot of people know this origin story,” Kevin Feige said. “A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before? We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”

While the cast has not yet been revealed, Fantastic Four has found its creative team, with WandaVision director Matt Shakman at the helm. Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer meanwhile will pen the script, with Fantastic Four scheduled to be released in the United States on November 8, 2024, and will be a part of Phase Six of the MCU.

Glenn Howerton can currently be heard-but-not-seen as the voice of Fred in Velma.
