Mar 23, 2023

Before Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, there was Boris Becker. Affectionately known as “Boom Boom” for his fast and accurate serve and volleying technique, the West Germany-born Becker was one of the best tennis players of his generation. Now Apple TV+ has a new doc about his life and career, “Boom! Boom! The World Vs. Boris Becker,” covering Becker’s legendary Wimbledon victories and more recent controversies.

Here’s a brief logline for the film:
The docuseries explores every aspect of the man who became a tennis sensation after winning The Wimbledon Championships at the age of just 17, going on to win 49 career titles, including six Grand Slams and an Olympic gold medal, as well as his high-profile, sometimes tumultuous personal life.
“Enron” and “The Armstrong Lie” director Alex Gibney helms the two-part series, which Gibney shot over three years before Becker’s two-and-a-half-year prison sentence that started in April 2022. “Boom! Boom!” also features interviews with Becker’s family and tennis greats like John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Djokovic, Mats Wilander, and Michael Stich. “Searching For Sugarman” producer John Battsek produces the series.
“Boom! Boom! The World Vs. Boris Becker” premieres on Apple TV+ on April 7. Watch a trailer for the documentary series below.
