James Gunn Addresses Teen Titans Movie Development Status Following Conflicting DCU Reports
Jul 30, 2025
The Teen Titans movie at DC Studios gets a new update from James Gunn following conflicting DC Universe reports. The DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” is still early into its run, but one project many are already eager to see is the live-action Teen Titans film that is in development. While Supergirl’s Ana Nogueira is attached as the screenwriter for the Teen Titans movie, Gunn had to set the record straight on the status of the actual script, as there have been some conflicting DCU reports about what is going on with the screenplay. Check out Gunn’s responses below:
When initially asked if he had read Nogueira’s Teen Titans script, Gunn stated, “It doesn’t exist. She’s been on WW for a while.”
Another user then followed up with a screenshot from a Variety article about what he and Peter Safran had said previously about the Teen Titans script. Gunn added, “I don’t understand. We said the script’s not finished there. I asked Ana to move to WW to finish that first and she did.”
The confusion in the fandom continued when Gunn was then asked if this meant that a script for Teen Titans never existed at all. Gunn followed up by saying, “Yes yes we just have never read a script.”
In one final response to the Teen Titans screenplay, a user included an old quote that they thought was about Gunn commenting on the team-up film. He commented, “Dude that’s referring to the Supegirl script and why we hired her for other stuff.”
Teen Titans Isn’t Cancelled, But Also Not Greenlit Yet
With all the confusion aside, it’s not a surprise that Gunn is putting more focus and priority on the Wonder Woman movie, especially after the big success of Superman. While Teen Titans is one of the bigger DC IPs, Wonder Woman surpasses the famous superhero group, to say the least.

James Gunn’s DC Universe is developing a Teen Titans movie, and some actors would be perfect as popular members of the young superhero team.
While the DCU’s Teen Titans movie script may still be a work in progress, that doesn’t mean the film is in any trouble since it has never been formally greenlit yet. If anything, the fact that Nogueira is being used in two additional DCU movies after her work on Supergirl shows that she is delivering good results to DC Studios.
No DC Studios Project Will Be Rushed
Gunn’s comments about the script showcase again how important it is for DC Studios to share the right information, including for major projects like Wonder Woman and Teen Titans. While it may take longer for Teen Titans to go forward, it will ideally be worth the wait.
Given the state of the DCU, there is room for an iconic group like the Teen Titans, as long as DC Studios doesn’t rush the film’s script. Once Nogueira has completed work on Wonder Woman, she will ideally be going back to working on the Teen Titans movie. Source: James Gunn/Threads
